“From a functional ingredient to an intoxicating buzz, cannabis will reshape fast-moving consumer goods, with food, beverages, beauty, health and tobacco having the most potential for disruption.” EuroMonitor, February 26, 2019.
The Hemp and Cannabis industries are being unshackled from the legislative complexities and the markets are growing at a rapid pace. If in this process, there is not the development of South African plant strains and the opportunities for the upliftment of local organic farmers through the production of Hemp for uses other than pharmaceutical a major occasion would have been missed. The need for local community based economic activity has never been more needed than right now. This is one of the pillars we stand on.

Our Mission at Minerva Green
Minerva Green started operations in 2019 after acquiring 74ha of prime land in Byrne valley, just outside Richmond in the heart of Kwa-Zulu Natal’s (KZN) hemp/cannabis belt. We are a research and development hub established to identify and preserve the local knowledge and indigenous plant strains ideally suited to growing hemp and the development of Industrial Hemp derived products in Africa. At Minerva Green, we don’t just Grow and research cannabis; we provide insight that assists understand how cannabis can help and be used in many forms sustainably.
We believe in Cannabis being everything from a superfood (Hemp Microgreens) to a medical marvel (in flower or extracted form), to one of the strongest, safest most eco-friendly building materials one could use. Our goal isn’t just to educate others by setting up a boutique interactive learning centre, but to continue to educate ourselves and others, constantly keeping up with the latest most reputable medical studies and cannabis research available. Acquiring expertise and insight is incredibly important to us, and are equally passionate about sharing our knowledge. In this context we have become part of the Baobab International group for training and teach the NQF Level 4 Agriseta certified Cannabis production course.
A core focus is upliftment of local communities so we are actively working with various industry bodies to activate local farmers, transfer knowledge and skills, and provide processing, product development and genetics support. As such, Minerva Green is taking a lead role in building the alliances required to formalise and grow the value chain in the industry. We have built a strong multidisciplinary network of relationships with other licensed farm operations, processing partners, universities and industry bodies which enable us to scale over time , with the aim of assisting small farmer empowerment and value chain participation to enable the green economy.
